Land of the Midnight Sun
Highlights Include: Nordkapp Arctic Circle Lofoten Islands Geiranger Fjord
Tour Outline We depart on our Scandinavian tour from the town of Rygge, just 50km south of Oslo. Over the following four days as we head north and east across Sweden and Finland, we traverse some very beautiful and sparsely populated landscape crossing the Arctic Circle and finally arriving at the remote town of Kirkenes near the Russian border.
Departing Kirkenes we head west, with the Barrents sea to our right, for some 500km until we reach Nordkapp (North Cape). Europe’s most northerly point and ‘The Land of the Midnight Sun’. From here if you are lucky enough to have clear skies, you can experience the sun at midnight!
From Nordkapp we embark on a 700km coastal ride south once again crossing the Arctic Circle and arriving at the town of Narvik, the start of the Lofoten Islands. The Lofoten Islands extend some 300km in to the Norweigan Sea, and the breathtaking scenery is among the best in Europe. Heading further south over the coming days we cross Trollstigen (Trolls Staircase) and on to Geiranger Fjord, claimed to be “The Most Beautiful Fjord in Norway”. From Geiranger, if time allows, we will visit the city of Bergen on our route back to Oslo and our finishing point at Rygge.
In summary Norway is probably one of the most beautiful places in Europe and a good camera is a must should you decide to come on tour with us. Despite all you hear about how expensive Norway is, you can travel as cheap there as mainland Europe. Hotels can be expensive but Norway has an abundance of Log Cabins which are well equipped and reasonably priced.
